Born from an invitation for Elsa Leydier to exhibit alongside portraits of one of those artists the West has enshrined as a genius, L'IMPOSTRICE appears as a counterpoint to that figure. The photographs are printed on paper seeded with endemic plant species native to the region where the work is shown. By incorporating the possibility of their own disappearance, the images are at once vulnerable and charged with potential — uncertain, nonetheless.

L'IMPOSTRICE stands in opposition to the rigid, immutable figure of the genius, who never doubts his talent for a single moment. A figure of unacknowledged potential, she moves at the slow rhythm of what might yet be.

Detached from the spectacular, their rendering random and irregular, the photographs embody doubt and hesitation. They hold within them something not quite there yet — something that will require patience to witness, one day perhaps, coming into bloom.
